Dear Parent / Carers,
I hope you are all well and managing to cope during this lock down. We have received so many emails, and cakes, thanking staff for all they are doing during this lockdown for which we are extremely grateful. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you, especially those of you who are supporting your children with home learning, for everything which you are doing to help us support your children.
We are very aware that every family’s circumstances are different and have tried to find the right balance so that you feel supported with home learning whilst not placing unrealistic expectations upon you. Next week we will be sending out a simple survey to provide you with the opportunity to tell us what is working well and also how we could make improvements.
Emotional Health and Well Being
Each week we will be emailing out resources and links to support you and your children with your emotional health and well-being. You may have already seen some of them but we hope that they provide some ideas for things you can do to support you and your children.
Attached with this email is a document from the Anna Freud Centre for Children and Families called Tracking My Feelings. It is designed to help individual children identify emotional trigger points and moments of positivity in their day-to-day life.
We have also uploaded a recording to our website which is designed to help you find a quiet space to think about all the simple but amazing things that we can still be grateful for despite the hardships which so many of us are suffering from. You can access it by clicking here.
The Wolf’s Colourful Coat
This week’s story is called The Wolf’s Wonderful Coat from the Feel Brave series, by Avril McDonald. This story is about self-confidence and the power of being kind. I hope you enjoy it. There are lots of excellent resources on the feel Brave website which we will be sharing with you over the coming weeks, but if you can’t wait you can find them on the Feel Brave website which you can access here.
Home Learning
We’re very proud of all the children at the moment working so hard in school and at home. We just wanted to give you a couple of updates which should benefit you and the children, particularly those working from home.
By the end of this week, you should have heard from teachers, about the new Oxford Owl account which has been set up for each year group/class. This information has either been emailed out or can be found on J2e. This great, free resource will allow the children to read books online, chosen by themselves or directed by the teacher. Please contact your class teacher if you have not received this information by Monday 25th January.
In addition to this, we recognise that motivating the children at home can be tough; a couple of things we have put in place should hopefully help with this. Some classes are already using the star reward system on J2e and as of next week each class will be doing the same, to try to encourage children to always do their best and achieve as many stars as they can. Our school dojo reward system will continue for those children in school. In addition to this, weekly certificates will start to go out for children at home and in school, who have caught their teacher’s attention as having achieved something extra special.
We have also bought into a new program for children in Years 3 to 6 which is linked to Accelerated Reader. It is called myON and provides children with access to a range of stories and information texts which the children can read or even listen to online. You can find out more about it here. Details of how to login will be sent to all parents next week.
I hope you have a great weekend
