Dear Parent / Carers,
Food Policy Consultation
There has been a lot of work and effort put into improving school lunches through our partnership with Chefs in Schools and also improving the curriculum through the introduction of Taste Ed. Although the implementation of Taste Ed has been delayed due to COVID 19 we are planning to introduce this during the summer term with staff receiving training on Monday 24th May.
The following link takes you to the Taste Ed website if you would like to know more about this program.

We have also been developing a new Healthy Eating Policy which is attached. This covers all aspects from our curriculum to school dinners, packed lunches and other aspects of school life e.g. birthday celebrations etc.
One of the biggest issues we currently have is packed lunches which range from healthy options including fruit and vegetables to lunches which include family sized packs of crisps, donuts, and sweets, whole packets of biscuits, chocolate bars, sugary yoghurts and high fat foods such as sausage rolls.
Whilst it is not our intention to tell parents what they should feed their children we do need to ensure there is consistency in expectations for all children regardless of whether they eat a packed lunch or a school dinner. We also need to ensure that as a school we are giving children consistent messages throughout all aspects of school life. Teaching children about healthy living before play and then allowing them to eat a packet of crisps at playtime is not providing a consistent message. Having said that we think that teaching children about a balanced diet is important. That doesn’t mean that cakes and crisps should never be eaten but that they should be eaten in moderation.
The attached policy is a draft version. There are some new ideas in the policy which are not currently in place but which we think would be good to introduce. For example, clear expectations and rules around packed lunches, playtime snacks and birthdays; introducing a calendar of food festivals to celebrate different foods; an after school cooking club and training for staff.
Healthy Eating Policy (Parent Draft)
We would like you to have the opportunity to share your views on the new policy so that we can ensure that the final version of the policy has the broad support of our families. You can provide feedback using the following email address food@campsbourne.haringey.sch.uk
School Street
The school street has now been in operation for a couple of weeks and we have certainly seen an increase in the number of children walking to school which is fantastic. Can I please remind parents that the aim of the school street is to reduce traffic during pick off and drop off times and not to eliminate it. Please still be alert for cars as there are legitimate reasons why cars will still be using the road during these times.
Walk to School Week
Next week is Walk to School Week. It has never been more important for us to save the planet by driving our cars less and to do more exercise to keep us fit and healthy, both physically and mentally. Your child should have brought home a Walk to School Week activity pack with lots of dun things to do. Next week class teachers will be asking children if they have walked/cycled to school with the class who walks/cycles the most receiving individual prizes, so let’s get walking/cycling!
Class Photos
Children will be having their class photos taken next Friday, so please make sure that they are in their school uniform.
Drugs Workshops for Year 4, 5 and 6 and ALL Parents
On Friday 21st May children in Years 4, 5 and 6 will be taking part in workshops to learn about the dangers of drugs. The following areas are broadly covered during the workshops and there are opportunities for questions.
On Thursday 20th May between 7pm and 8pm the person delivering the workshops will be delivering a virtual parent workshop so you can see what is covered in the presentations and ask any questions which you may have. A zoom link will be emailed to parents nearer the time.
New Prayer / Reflection Space
We are creating a new prayer / reflection space where all children can spend time praying and / or reflecting. This space will be available for children to use at lunch time and will be supervised by a staff member or parent volunteer. Our Muslim community is currently celebrating Ramadan so in the first instance we are asking for donations of prayer mats and any other items which you think the children would need to support them with their prayer / reflection. If you are able to donate any items please leave them with the school office.
Sports Day
We have provisionally booked Friday 2nd July for our sports day this year. We are hoping to use the field in Alexandra Palace as we have in previous years and hope that the weather is kind to us.
HSA AGM
The Campsbourne Home School Association (HSA) annual general meeting will take place on Friday 28th May 9am. Details of how this will be hosted will be sent out nearer the time.
Best wishes
