Dear Parent / Carers
The following email can be viewed on our website in different languages. To access this ease click here.
The government have announced that Primary Schools in Haringey are to close until further notice. However, school does remain open for children whose parents are critical workers or for those who are classed as vulnerable.
Vulnerable children and young people include those who:
I would like to draw your attention to the bullet point “those who may have difficulty engaging with remote education at home (for example due to a lack of devices or quiet space to study)”.
This means if you do not have access to suitable technology e.g. laptops or tablets at home and cannot access J2E then your child is eligible to attend school. In circumstances where you have more than one child but only one device you may want to send one of your children into school whilst the other child has sole use of the device which you have at home. If you do not think you will be able to facilitate home learning I encourage you to send your child in.
We will prioritise laptops for families who do not have access to technology and who would normally use public transport to get to school. Those who live locally are encouraged to send their children in.
Critical Workers
Parents whose work is critical to the coronavirus (COVID-19) response include those who work in health and social care and in other key sectors outlined in the following sections.
Health and social care
This includes, but is not limited to, doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics, social workers, care workers, and other frontline health and social care staff including volunteers; the support and specialist staff required to maintain the UK’s health and social care sector; those working as part of the health and social care supply chain, including producers and distributors of medicines and medical and personal protective equipment.
Education and childcare
This includes:
Key public services
This includes:
Local and national government
This only includes:
Food and other necessary goods:
This includes those involved in food:
Public safety and national security
This includes:
Transport
This includes those who will keep the air, water, road and rail passenger and freight transport modes operating during the coronavirus (COVID-19) response, including those working on transport systems through which supply chains pass.
Utilities, communication and financial services
This includes:
If you fall into one of the above categories I encourage you to send your child in on Monday. I am asking all staff to be in school on Monday to ensure that we have enough staff to deliver lessons for children who will be attending.
I would also encourage those of you who are eligible to send your children in that you do so for 5 days a week, and not just on the days you are working. This will provide the children with consistency and ensure that their learning continues with as little disruption as possible, rather than switching between in school provision and home learning through J2E.
I know from the previous lockdown that circumstances for families changed over time and that some families chose to send their children in later on. If your child does not attend school this Monday but you would like them to attend at a later date we will ask you to contact the school explaining that your circumstances have changed and that you would like your child to attend. We will then get back to you with a start date. This will enable us to ensure that we have sufficient staff on site at all times.
If you are not sure whether you fall into a category then please feel free to contact me through email letting me know what your personal circumstances are and I will do my best to let you know before Monday.
Children who do not attend school will receive home learning via J2E. I will be sharing an overview of what home learning consists of for the different year groups with you on Monday and will be asking teachers to make home learning materials available from Tuesday onwards.
Many thanks for your understanding and patience
