Dear Parent / Carers,
Clean Air Day – Thurs 17th June!
Clean Air day is the UK’s largest air pollution campaign, you can find out more here. London suffers from poor air quality which is proven to have a harmful impact on human health. For example spikes in air pollution are linked with asthma exacerbations. But there are positive changes on the horizon, the sale of new petrol and diesel cars is to be banned in 2030. Hundreds of school streets schemes have been implemented, including one at Campsbourne! 2020 has seen lots of new traffic calming schemes put in place in London and the extended Ultra Low Emission Zone will come into effect in the Autumn.
Year 5 joined the clean air campaign and spent the morning learning about clean air, pollution and how this can affect children’s health. We also discussed what causes pollution and how we can try to make a difference. As a year group we decided to create posters, which we plan to laminate and display on the school gates and local lampposts to encourage the community to support our clean air campaign. With our campaign and safer streets we hope to make our local environment as pollution free as possible.
Here is what you can do to reduce your contribution to air pollution:
Sports Day
We are pleased to say that, despite the announcement by the Prime Minister on Monday, we are still able to run our normal sports day in the park on Friday 2nd July. To remain COVID compliant children will remain within their school bubbles (Reception and Year 1 / Year 2 and 3 / Year 4, 5 and 6. According to government guidance parents are allowed to come but must not congregate in groups of more than 30. However, it is ok to have two or even three groups of 30. We will leave it to parents to manage this themselves and ensure they are staying COVID safe.
COVID Testing
Primary age children are now one of the main groups seeing a rise in COVID infections across the country and we are aware of a number of local schools with cases. Staff have been asked to carry out two lateral flow tests each week. Although lateral flow tests are not perfect they can help to control the spread of the virus. They are easy to get hold of and can be ordered using the following link https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests and usually arrive in a day or so.
If you are volunteering or plan to come to events such as sports day then doing a lateral flow test before you come in can help provide everyone with some reassurance.
Self-Isolating
Please remember that if you or a member of your household has COVID symptoms then you should all self-isolate and the person with symptoms should get a PCR test.
