Dear Parent / Carers,
Red Nose Day
Thank you to everyone who dressed up as a superhero to help raise money for Red Nose Day. The children have had a great day telling jokes and enjoying being a superhero for the day. We have had lots of children quite rightly dressed as doctors and nurses but my favourite costume was that of one boy who had no white coat, cape or mask. When I asked him who he was dressed as he said, ‘my dad!’ to which I gave him a high five!
If you would still like to donate here is the justgiving site https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/campsbourneschool
Science Week
We are celebrating science week next week. Children across the school will be exploring scientists in their year groups. They will also experience a virtual workshop, which will be interactive and feature a practical lesson. Over the week, the children will be completing fun activities based on their scientist in class. Nursery and Reception are going to be looking at the effect of light and how quickly light can travel. The week will culminate in a virtual assembly, where year groups will share some of their work with the rest of the school.
These are the scientists the year groups will be exploring:
Year 1: John Dalton – English Chemist
Year 2: Ron Headley. Jamaican scientist who invented the Ecocharger (cleaner diesel engine emission system) & Marie Van Brittan Brown who was a Jamaican who invented the first home security system.
Year 3: Rosalind Franklin whose work was central to the understanding of the molecular structures of DNA and Aziz Sancar – A Turkish molecular biologist specializing in DNA repair
Year 4: Ellis Widdowson – A British dietitian and nutritionist who was responsible for overseeing the government-mandated addition of vitamins to food and wartime rationing in Britain during World War 2.
Year 5: Garret A. Morgan – An African-American Inventor who developed the gas mask.
Year 6: John Franklin Enders (Father of modern vaccines) and Ozlem Tureci who is a female German physican, immunologist of Turkish origin who helped invent the Pfizer vaccine.
World Book Day 31st March
You have just over a week to get a costume ready for World Book Day which we are celebrating on Wednesday 31st March. Teachers are busy planning exciting activities for the day. In addition to these, we will also be having a whole school reading challenge – The Masked Reader. Many members of staff are creating fantastic short video clips of themselves masked in some way, reading an extract from their favourite book; some staff members have also masked their voices! It’s the children’s challenge to work out who is reading which book…….an answer sheet which the children can submit their guesses on, will be emailed out nearer the time. How well do you know our staff members??
Date for the Diary – Sports Day
We have provisionally booked Friday 2nd July for our sports day this year. We are hoping to use the field in Alexandra Palace as we have in previous years and hope that the weather is kind to us.
COVID Symptoms
Can I please remind parents that if your child has any of the 3 main symptoms of coronavirus then they must stay off school and get a PCR COVID test. The 3 main symptoms are:
They should only return to school if they get a negative result and they are feeling well. The lateral flow tests (See details below) should not been used where you or a child has symptoms. The lateral flow tests are only meant to be used by adults in the household who do not have symptoms.
Testing for Parents and Family Members
The following is from the government regarding access to testing for families who have children in school.
Undertaking regular, rapid coronavirus (COVID-19) testing helps reduce transmission of the virus. Parents and other adults in households with children at school or college, who do not have symptoms, can now access regular, rapid coronavirus (COVID-19) testing. This includes childcare and support bubbles.
Tests are fast, easy and completely free. There are different ways for a household, childcare or support bubble to collect their test to take at home, twice-weekly:
If you have any queries about the tests, and you live in England, please call 119 (free from mobiles and landlines). Lines are open every day from 7am to 11pm.
Children of primary school age (and below) without symptoms are not being asked to take a test.
Testing is voluntary, but strongly recommended to all who are eligible. Alongside the vaccine, washing hands, wearing face coverings, and maintaining social distancing, rapid testing plays a vital role in reducing transmission rates. Getting into the habit of regular testing as part of our everyday lives will help us all to play our part and do what we can to protect each other.
Mask Wearing
We have received a couple of emails regarding the wearing of masks at drop off and pick up time. Whilst we are in lockdown we are still asking parents to wear masks at drop off and pick up time as it helps to reassure families whose individual circumstances mean that they have greater anxieties and concerns regarding coronavirus. On behalf of all these families I say thank you for continuing to follow this request. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer before we can return to normality.
Easter Holiday
We will be running an Easter holiday club between Tuesday 6th April and Friday 16th April. The hours are 8.30am to 6pm and costs £35 per day. This does not include lunch so children will need to bring a packed lunch and snacks. Booking will be open from Wednesday 10th March. If you would like to book a place please contact Diane in the school office. admin@campsbourne.haringey.sch.uk
School Street
Reminder that after Easter the local authority will be enforcing a school street on Nightingale Lane. Our School Street will operate on Nightingale Lane and South View Road from 8.15-9.15am & 2.45-4pm, Monday to Friday during term time only. Please see the attached map showing the School Street area.
I hope you have a fantastic weekend.
Best wishes
