This school is improving well because of the strong and determined leadership of the head teacher. Together with senior leaders and governors, he has improved the quality of teaching and pupils’ outcomes.

Overall, pupils make good progress in reading, writing and mathematics. Pupils who have special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities achieve well. Disadvantaged pupils make strong progress and attain well.

Children in the early years enjoy their learning, make good progress and have fun.

Pupils behave well. From a young age, children are taught the importance of respect and kindness. They are proud of their school and speak positively of the many exciting learning opportunities their teachers provide.

The well-thought-out curriculum meets pupils’ needs. Teachers plan a variety of learning activities that enable pupils to be creative, learn about the world around them and experience education outdoors.

Following your appointment as head teacher in 2016, you evaluated the school’s work and took swift action to focus attention on improving pupils’ learning. You have worked closely with the governing body to build a new senior team and ensure that all leaders and staff understand the strategic vision for the school. You and your staff have worked together to share good practice and achieve greater consistency in the quality of teaching. As shown by conversations with parents and their responses to Ofsted’s online questionnaire, Parent View, they appreciate the changes you have introduced.

The school has a rich, broad and balanced curriculum. This is supported by a range of opportunities and extra-curricular activities. These include a vibrant breakfast club, the jazz band and your well-designed space for forest schools that is accessible to all pupils in the school. An example of the school’s innovative curriculum can be seen in the investigative approach to learning in science.

Campsbourne is more than a school it’s a community. Our Home School Association (HSA) has raised thousands of pounds over the years to support the school but fund raising events such as our annual summer fair, quiz nights, auctions and weekly cake sales are only part of the picture.

The HSA also hosts events to welcome new reception parents each year and really focuses on hosting social events which encourage parents to get to know each other and provide the support which we all need at one point or another as we guide our children on their journey through primary school.

These include our swimming pool, purpose built gym, Eco Garden, dedicated kitchen and dining area, stage with lighting, multi-use games area (MUGA), 3 large playgrounds including our unique tree lined canopy, ICT suite, music room, art room, sensory room for children with special needs and our school library.

be able to choose from our wide range of Extended Schools Provision

We provide breakfast club from 7.45am and after school club until 6.30pm. This has grown in popularity during the past few years with up to 100 children accessing after school club on some days. Our home away from home approach provides children with a calm and relaxed environment where they can choose what they would like to do from a range of fun activities. The same staff team also run our holiday club when school is closed.

We also host a wide range of after school clubs which children can sign up to. Throughout the year these include drama, yoga, Sambassadors, cricket, football, street dance, chess, basketball, French, den club, netball, fitness, craft club and science.

We have developed a curriculum, unique to our school, which reflects our community and locality. It provides opportunities for children to explore issues around diversity and globalisation, equality, climate change and sustainability, mental health and well-being and a love for the natural world.

Enjoy Forest School

Forest School is an integral part of our curriculum. It starts with our youngest children in Nursery and Reception and continues throughout the school in years 1, 3 and 5 who all enjoy a whole term of weekly Forest School sessions.
