Personal, Social, Health and Economic (including Relationships and Sex Education)
At Campsbourne we teach the National Curriculum for Personal, Social, Health and Economic education which can be found here.
PSHE education can be defined as a planned programme of learning through which children and young people acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. As part of a whole school approach, PSHE education at Campsbourne School develops the qualities and attributes children need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society.
The benefits to children of such an approach are numerous as PSHE prepares them to manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face growing up in such rapidly changing and challenging times. It also helps them to connect and apply the knowledge and understanding they learn in all subjects to practical, real-life situations while helping them to feel safe and secure enough to fulfil their academic potential.
PSHE is timetabled for one hour every week and is taught using the Cambridgeshire Primary Personal Development Programme as a foundation and then enhance with the links to external organisation e.g. Women Solace Aid who deliver Power of Women workshops and Gangs Against Violence in Year 5. The curriculum is mapped over two years to ensure all units are covered and is closely tied into the school’s program of assemblies so that topics being taught in class are being reinforced during whole school assemblies and weekly Keeping Safe Assemblies for individual phases also delivered to ensure that this topic is covered. Relationships and Sex Education is covered each year as is e-Safety which has been incorporated into the PSHE timetable.
