Dear Parent / Carers,
Black History Month
For the last few weeks we have been celebrating Black History Month, where all classes have had a focus on a significant black figure in history who has achieved great things for their community and the world. The children have enjoyed a variety of activities in the classroom and this week in particular they have also taken this focus in their literacy lessons. Friday’s assembly showcased all the learning and wonderful creativity which took place. In addition to this, every class has taken part in a workshop from ‘Wisemoves’ our external provider, who delivered engaging and exciting sessions: interactive storytelling for EYFS and KS1 and drama based workshops for KS2 learning about other significant black figures. KS2 were lucky enough to also take part in ‘Show Racism the red card’ workshops. Well done to all the teachers and children for their engagement and hard work!
Parents Evenings for Children who do not have a Special Educational Need.
From now on parents’ evenings will be run over two weeks. One week will be for those for parents whose children do not have a special educational need and a second week for those that do have a special educational need. This is so that there is additional time to go through the individual education plans that all children with special needs have.
- Parents Evenings for Non-SEND children will take place on Monday 14th November and Wednesday 16th
- Parents Evenings for SEND children will take place on Monday the 21st and Tuesday the 22nd (A separate letter has been sent to our SEND families regarding this parent meeting.)
After half term we will send you the link so that you can book your child’s parent meeting appointment. The meetings for Non-SEND children will last 10 minutes. The finishing time for the final meeting each evening will vary slightly between classes depending on the number of children in the class who need an appointment.
These will be the only times made available for these meetings. If you do not book a meeting or attend your meeting then we will not be able to offer you a time at a later date. This is because all teachers have a certain number of directed hours during a school year which cover the various duties a teacher is required to fulfil. These hours are fully accounted for within the structure which is agreed between the teachers, their union and the school. There is therefore no additional time outside of these meetings during which teachers can be directed to attend additional meetings so please make sure you book an appointment and attend on time.
HSA Bonfire Night Disco
Tickets for the HSA bonfire night disco go on sale in the playgrounds from next week – dates to be announced on Classlist, (so sign up below if you haven’t done so already!) £3 per person, children younger than three go free. Cash and card accepted. Tickets often sell out for this event (as we are limited on numbers by our licence) so buy early to avoid disappointment. For those that haven’t been before – we don’t put on our own fireworks display as we have a great view of the view of the Ally Pally ones, but there will be sparklers, crafts, a DJ, BBQ, Café and bar – so lots of fun! *Children must be accompanied by an adult and be under supervision at all times* https://www.classlist.com/

Queen Elizabeth Books
The Department for Education very kindly sent us replacement books for everyone so we have offered every child one who wanted a copy.
Class Rep Meeting
I am hoping to meet as many of our class reps on Wednesday 9th November at 9am. If you have any questions which you would like them to ask me please let them know.
Value of the Week
After half term we are thinking about the value of ‘courage’. We will discuss what it takes to do the right thing even when it is difficult and learn about people who have shown courage such as the suffragettes and Martin Luther King.
Weekly Attendance
Congratulations to Gwen John in the Infants and Turner in the Juniors for registering the highest attendance for the week ending 14th October!

Safer Schools
We have signed up to Safer Schools which has been created to educate, empower, and protect school communities whilst facilitating a safer environment for children and young people to learn, grow and thrive. As part of this resource there is a Parent Hub which has lots of resources to support parents with the conversations they have at home around online safety. https://oursaferschools.co.uk/home-learning-hub/featured/ In the future we will be sharing specific resources which we think are particularly good but in the mean time please browse the resources available.
I hope you have a lovely half term.
Kind Regards
Jonathan Smith
