Dear Parent / Carers,
Welcome back for the summer term. We have an exciting term ahead with lots of trips organised, sports day, our summer fair and the usual end of year celebrations. You can find all the key dates at the bottom of this newsletter and on our school website. I would like to draw your attention to our final open mornings for this year which are taking place on:
Reception and Year 1 Open Morning
Tuesday 9th May 9.00 – 9.30
Year 2 and 3 Open Morning
Monday 15th May 9.00 – 9.30
Year 4, 5 and 6 Open Morning

NEU Strikes – Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May
The NEU has announced two more strikes on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May. As with previous strikes teachers are not required to tell me whether they will be striking or not so parents should assume that their children’s classes will be closed on these dates. If circumstances change then I will contact classes individually to inform you.
After School Club 3.30 – 6.30 on Strike Days
If you normally attend After School Club on a Thursday and would still like your child to attend can you please contact the school by Tuesday at the latest to let them know. If we have enough numbers we will open the club for these children. We will contact you next week regarding the strike on Tuesday 2nd May when we have a better idea of what the impact of the strike will be.
After School Clubs
There will be no after school clubs on strike days unless you hear from the provider directly.
Eid Mubarak
We would all like to send our warm wishes to our Muslim community who are celebrating the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Black Heritage Community Coffee Morning
Welcome back to the Summer term. I hope we are all doing well and living in abundance. I would like to put together more regular networking events which will allow for more frequent discussions and better opportunity to network. These may be in the form of coffee mornings or afternoons and will provide opportunities such as visiting our school library where we can have the opportunity to look at and discuss the books children have access to. As it starts to warm up, we can also have visits to the Eco Garden or over at Ally Pally. These will mostly be during school hours so your children will remain in class. Any young siblings however are welcome to come along. Please also feel free to pass this information on to any other families you feel will benefit from these discussions. I would like to host the first coffee morning on Thursday 18th May in the Eco room at 9:30. Please feel free to email me at jspringerbest.309@lgflmail.org if you have any questions.
HSA Fun Run now Cancelled
Unfortunately, the HSA Fun Run scheduled for this Saturday 22nd April is postponed. This is due to there being not enough participants to make it a successful fundraiser. We apologise for any disappointment and plan to run this later in the year, giving more time to drum up runners and sponsorship. However please do mark your calendars now because the famous Campsbourne Quiz is BACK! Sean Wallace, AKA The Dark Destroyer from ITV’s The Chase is returning as the quiz master on Thursday 10th May. Save the date and watch out for ticket info soon!
Alexandra Park Youth Football Club Trials

Haringey Events
Urge parents and carers to sign up for Healthy Start scheme
We are urging parents and carers in Haringey to make the most of the Healthy Start scheme amid the ongoing cost of living crisis. Healthy Start was set up by the government in 2006 to ensure that low-income mothers who are more than 10 weeks’ pregnant, or parents who have children under 4, have access to support to purchase healthy food, milk (dairy and formula) and vitamin supplements (for the mother during pregnancy, as well as for the baby/child). Many eligible parents across the country are still not in receipt of this vital support to young families at a very challenging and difficult time for them financially. For more details on who is eligible for the scheme, what it provides and how to apply, visit the our Healthy Start pages

What are internet connected devices?
Many families have internet connected devices for their child or home. Internet connected devices are devices or toys that are connected to the internet via WiFi, Bluetooth or a physical connection like a USB cable. They can also be connected to each other. Internet connected devices can send and receive data, respond to voice commands and be controlled remotely using a smartphone app. They can also be called ‘the internet of things’.
More and more things are becoming connected to the internet. As well as computers and mobile phones, there are:
- Smart speakers, such as Google Home and Amazon Echo
- Wearables, such as Fitbit and Apple Watch
- Smart meters measuring household energy consumption
- Toys with voice or image recognition, such as Hello Barbie™ and Furby Connect
- Robots, drones and other mechanical toys, controlled via an app, such as Dash and Dot
- Smart TVs
- Smart appliances
- Smart doorbells.
What are the risks of internet connected devices?
Internet connected devices can have similar risks to devices like smartphones and tablets. These can be more likely to happen if the devices aren’t set up properly. Some of the risks of using internet connected devices are:
- Other people might be able to access the device and content without you knowing such as a child’s GPS activity tracker
- You may not be able to see that someone’s connected to your device, but sometimes developers or hackers can see your content
- Baby monitors, children’s tablets and even remote-control helicopters or drone toys, can be hacked and used by people outside of your home
- Internet connected devices can collect personal data, including audio and visual data.
