Dear Parent / Carers,
Welcome back to a new school year. I hope you all had a lovely summer holiday and are looking forward to the autumn term. It has been fantastic to see all the children back and playing so nicely together in the playground and settling into their new classes. We look forward to welcoming our new reception children who will be starting next week.
School Office
Kristina Dubyna who worked in our school office last year has decided to return to Ukraine so that she can reunite with her family. We would like to thank her for all her hard work and wish her all the best for the future. Pawandeep who currently works in the school as a midday meal supervisor and as cover for teaching assistants will be supporting the office staff in the mornings.
Term Dates and Meet the Teacher Meetings
Please make a note of the key dates which are on the following page. The first key dates are the Meet the Teacher Meetings which take place on Tuesday 19th September for Year 1 and 2; Wednesday 20th September
for Year 3 and 4 and Thursday 21st September for Year 5 and 6.
Preloved Uniform Give Away
It has been lovely to see nearly all of the children wearing the school uniform this week. Please remember that we do have a school uniform policy which the vast majority of children observe all of the time. It is really not fair on these children when other children come in their own clothes. We rely on parental support for this rather than enforcing it through consequences for children so your cooperation in this matter is much appreciated.
If your child does not have a school uniform or if you are running low next week (Monday to Thursday only) we will be giving away preloved uniform which we have lots of. Sharon will be in the eco room between 8.40 and 9ish to help you find the sizes which you need.
Measles Update from Public Health Haringey
Please read the attached letter from Public Health Haringey regarding the current increase in Measles circulating in London and how you can get your child vaccinated. MMR – Letter From Public Health Haringey
Air Pollution Alert
As some of you might have already tasted or seen, London’s air is very polluted at the moment. Government has already issued a pollution alert, as has LondonAir. Air pollution is especially harmful to children’s health, asthma and wheezing are more likely in these conditions. Car emissions are one of the single most contributors to air pollution in London: Please reconsider any unnecessary drives you take over the coming days, including driving to school.
Art in the Park – Family Session Sunday 10th September 10:30-11:30 Free – Booking Essential
One of our parents, Katy Fattuhi, is running an Art in the Park – Family session on Sunday 10th September 10:30-11:30. Join us for a creative morning immersed in the nature of Alexandra Park, where we’ll have lots of fun discovering how to use natural materials as paintbrushes. We will experiment and use our imaginations to create paintings and drawings in unusual ways. It might get messy! We’ll discover how varied the grasses and ‘weeds’ of the park actually are when we take time to look more closely at them and we’ll notice how things are changing as we get into late summer. This will be a relaxed, informal session for families to enjoy some creative time together in nature. Children of all ages are welcome and parents/carers/grandparents are encouraged to join in the fun as much as they would like to! There should be something for everyone.
Facilitated by local artist and Art in the Park co-ordinator, Katy Fattuhi.
To book your place, please email admin@friendsofalexandrapark.org (mention the number of people you are booking for and the children’s ages)
I hope you have a lovely weekend
