The good weather has stayed with us, and it has been another busy week at school. Children in Year 1 took their Phonics Screening check and children in Year 4 completed their Multiplication Tables check, so well done to everyone who took a statutory test this week. I enjoyed spending time in classes this week reviewing the teaching of mathematics with Mrs Baptiste. The children responded very positively, and the overall quality of teaching and learning was very encouraging. The annual HSA Summer Fair takes place next Saturday 21st between 12pm and 4pm and we look forward to welcoming you to the event. Further information about the fair can be found below. Please keep supporting the school in all that we do for the whole community.
The word of the week – APRICATE – to bask in the sun.
TASTE ED WEEK AT CAMPSBOURNE – Mr Mattocks our Science and Technology Lead writes:
At Campsbourne this week, we had a fantastic week of Taste Ed. The aim of the week is to help children reduce dislike and discover a love of a wide range of healthy foods, but this can be a slow process and must never be forced. It may take many separate positive exposures before a child learns to love a new food. There is a great deal of evidence that shows that appetite is social and children will feel more confident to try something when they have seen a peer or a trusted adult try it first. During the week, the children were able to explore a range of different foods focusing on the five senses (see, hear, touch, smell and taste). In Year 1, the children made fantastic fruit smoothies. In Year 2, they explored a selection of fruit and vegetables culminating in them mixing different fruits and vegetables together and putting it into a healthy bowl. In Year 3, the children tasted blueberries, strawberries and a host of other fruits. In Year 4, the children made a fabulous couscous salad. In Year 5, the children handled citrus fruits and examined the differences between these fruits and sweet ones. In Year 6, we made a crunchy fruit salad – it was very tasty. A massive shout out to the HSA too, who provided utensils and food for the whole school for the week. It was a fantastic week and we all wish we could do Design and Technology every week!
FRIENDLY REMINDERS –
Snacks – Please remember that crisps should not be sent in with your child as a breaktime snack. A piece of fruit or a healthy bar is a good alternative.
Smart Watches – Please can ensure that your child does not wear a smart watch to school – Apple Watches, Samsung watches, Garmin watches etc because they cause distractions for the children and disrupt their learning. If the school needs to contact you we will make sur that this happens.
Thank you for your continued support with these very important matters.

STANDARDS ASSEMBLY – It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers at this week’s Standards Assembly. Part of any school’s mission and ethos is to teach children about the importance of standards. The first set of results were pleasing, and the children have responded well to teachers’ encouragement and high levels of expectations this week. It was also a pleasure to award the first set of Headteacher’s awards too, I hope that the children keep their certificates safe and that they are shared with their families.
GET YOUR GROWN UPS GARDENING – Thank you to everyone who came last week who helped to tidy up the school grounds. It was fantastic to see the community come together to support this initiative and to see the start of the transformation of the grounds. The next date for GET YOUR GROWN-UPS GARDENING takes place on Saturday 5th July between 10am and 12pm and everyone is welcome.
FUTURE DATES – All dates for events the rest of the year have been uploaded on to the school website and can be found on the landing page.
HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!
