Free School Meals

Non-means tested free school meals have been available to children in Primary School for 2024 / 2025 by the Mayor of London.

Eligibility for Free School Meals

Children are eligible for Free School Meals if their parents receive any of the following benefits:

• Income Support
• income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
• Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
• Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

All children who currently qualify for free school meals based on their family circumstances are entitled to pupil premium.

Pupil Premium Funding

Schools receive additional funding for children who are entitled to Free School Meals because of their parents financial circumstances. This additional funding is called Pupil Premium. We therefore urge all parents who are in receipt of state benefits to check if they are eligible and to apply for Free School Meals regardless of the year they are in.

School’s receive an additional £1480 per child for every child who is registered to receive Free School Meals, regardless of their year group, each school year.
