Dear Parent / Carers,
Black History Month
During Black History Month we will be celebrating the achievements and contribution of people from the Black community. Each year group will learn about a different person from the black community. We have chosen a range of historical and current figures some of whom the new children will know and some like Claudia Jones who they may not have heard of but where they will be familiar with their legacy in the Notting Hill Carnival. The children will have additional opportunities to show their creative side and write about their historical figure through our Wow writing week.
- Reception: African/Caribbean history through art and music
- Year 1: Claudia Jones – Founder of Notting hill Carnival and journalist
- Year 2 – Mary Seacole (British-Jamaican nurse, healer and businesswoman who set up the “British Hotel” behind the lines during the Crimean War)
- Year 3 – Alesha Dixon
- Year 4 – Marcus Rashford (Footballer and campaigner)
- Year 5 – Emma Clarke (First female black footballer who played in Ally Pally) AND Jess Carter (Black footballer from the euro squad)
- Year 6 – Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock (Scientist)
In addition to this we have organised workshops across 2 days for Reception to Year 6 with a company who we have used before with great success. These workshops for each year group over the two days will take to following focus:
- EYFS, Years 1 and 2- Storytelling
- Years 3- Mary Seacole
- Year 4- Malorie Blackman
- Years 5 and 6- Maya Angelou
October is also the month when Show Racism the Red Card’s hold their annual anti-racism day. We have arranged for this organisation to deliver anti-racism workshops to classes in years 4 to 6. You can find out more about these workshops on their website https://www.theredcard.org/school-workshops
Half Term Holiday Club
I’m pleased to say that we had a late burst of bookings for our holiday club which we can now confirm will be running on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of half term.
HSA Bonfire Night Disco
Tickets for the HSA bonfire night disco go on sale in the playgrounds from next week – dates to be announced on Classlist, (so sign up below if you haven’t done so already!) £3 per person, children younger than three go free. Cash and card accepted. Tickets often sell out for this event (as we are limited on numbers by our licence) so buy early to avoid disappointment. For those that haven’t been before – we don’t put on our own fireworks display as we have a great view of the view of the Ally Pally ones, but there will be sparklers, crafts, a DJ, BBQ, Café and bar – so lots of fun! *Children must be accompanied by an adult and be under supervision at all times* https://www.classlist.com/
Meet the governors – Friday 21st October
The Campsbourne Governors will be available in the dining hall next Friday from 9-10am to answer your questions about how they support the school. In particular we will shortly be sending details of a forthcoming parent governor election and will be able to answer any questions about this role.
Turkish Community Centre
One of our parents, Filiz Erkmen, is holding a food stand at the Kurdish Community Centre (Kurdish Advise Centre N8 7AD) every Friday. Homemade Kurdish and Turkish fresh food and more veggies, salad and borek are available. Please do come along as this will help support our community to come together and socialise.
Class Rep Meeting
I am hoping to meet as many of our class reps on Wednesday 9th November at 9am. If you have any questions which you would like them to ask me please let them know.
Value of the Week
Next week we are thinking about the value of ‘positivity’. We will be encouraging the children to think about the power of positive thinking and also the impact that being negative can have on ourselves and others if we are negative towards them.
Weekly Attendance
Congratulations to Riley in the Infants and Shonibare in the Juniors for registering the highest attendance for the week ending 7th October!

Swiggle Search Engine for Children
If you are worried about the search engine your child uses on the internet then the following article may be of use which discusses whether there is a safe search engine for children and introduces Swiggle which has been developed by South West Grid for Learning. https://swgfl.org.uk/services/swiggle/is-there-a-safe-search-engine-for-kids/
I hope you have a lovely weekend
Kind Regards
Jonathan Smith
