Dear Parent / Carers,
Pick up and Drop Off Changes
As you can see the scaffolding is nearly all down and the middle playground has nearly been cleared. The contractors have asked me to give them one more week to completely clear and clean the middle playground. This means when we return after the long weekend, Tuesday 7th May, all families will use the main entrance on Nightingale Lane. This will mean that you will finally experience the benefits of the Safer Street.
Breakfast and After School Club 3.30 – 6.30 will still use the Nursery entrance for pick up and drop offs.
After school clubs 3.30 – 4.30 will continue to use the Newland Road entrance.
Increase in Fees for Breakfast Club and After School Club
It is with great regret that the governors have agreed to increase the fees for both the Breakfast Club, After School Club and Holiday Club by 10%. The increases will come into effect from September 2024.
Per Session per Child (Current Fee) |
Additional Siblings (Current Fee) |
Per Session per Child (Sep 2024 Fee) |
Additional Siblings (Sep 2024 Fee) |
|
Breakfast Club | £4 | £3 | £4.40 | £3.40 |
After School Club | £12 | £10 | £13.20 | £11 |
Changes to Holiday Club Hours
We are also mindful that family’s needs during the school holidays can vary and that not everyone will need the full wrap around care of 8am to 6pm and that a shorter session based around the school day of 9am – 4pm may be more cost effective and meet your needs.
We will therefore trial offering parents the choice of either an 8am to 6pm session or 9am to 4pm.
Per Session per Child (Current Fee) |
Additional Siblings (Current Fee) |
Per Session per Child (Sep 2024 Fee) |
Additional Siblings (Sep 2024 Fee) |
|
Holiday Club 8am to 6pm |
£35 | £35 | £38.50 | £38.50 |
Holiday Club 9am to 4pm |

Changes to School Menu
We are going to take a new approach to updating the school menu. When asking children for suggestions to refresh the menu we have found that they are reluctant to try new recipes because they have thought that if they don’t like them they will still be on the menu for the reminder of the term or even longer!. We have therefore spoken to the School Council and told them that when choosing new recipes to try we will do so for 3 to 6 weeks but if, after 3 – 6 weeks, the feedback is not positive we will look to change the choice again. We hope that this will encourage the children to be more adventurous in choosing new options in future. New menus have been uploaded to the school website with the new dishes, chosen by the children in red.

NO MOW MAY…
or plant some flowers
Us eco warriors would like you parents and your children to take part and not mow the lawn during NO MOW MAY or plant some flowers if you have fake grass which you cannot mow. We would like you to email us pictures of your garden as evidence. Did you know not cutting your grass and planting flowers encourages butterflies which pollinate. On the 24th of May 2024 we would like children to wear colourful clothes to celebrate summer months coming.
Free Family ‘Art in the Park’ Event – Sunday 28 April, 10:30–11:30
Katy Fattuhi, who runs ‘Art Club in the Garden’ is running a series of similar sessions with the Friends of Alexandra Park outdoors in various locations in the park. The first is next Sunday and is free for local families.
“Join us to enjoy the signs of spring in the park this April and celebrate this flower-filled time of year with some paper craft, collage and nature-spotting activities. There will be fun for all the family! Family Art in the Park sessions offer nature-based arts and crafts activities that connect children with the seasons and the natural world in Alexandra Park.” (See attached leaflet for more details)

Campsbourne Celebrates Difference
The week of 4th June we will be holding our second “Campsbourne Celebrates Difference” week. Children will have the opportunity to participate in activities throughout the week and we will celebrate these on Friday the 7th June.
We’d like to extend these celebrations to you all from 3.30-5.00pm on the upper KS2 playground. Tastes of dishes from around the world will be available along with music and an art exhibition. Everyone is encouraged to wear traditional dress or colourful attire. Your help is needed! Please contact your HSA representatives if you are able to contribute a dish, so we can include as many different tastes of the world as possible.
Class Gifts for Birthdays
We appreciate that your children’s birthdays are special occasions and teachers always do their best to wish children happy birthday and make sure they feel special. However, moving forward we will no longer be accepting small gifts, including food items, from parents to hand out to classes. There are an increasing number of children with allergies, sometimes these allergies are known and sometimes they are not, and so it is not safe for us to be handing out food items to children. We will also not be accepting non- food items. Teachers are very busy with lessons continuing right up to the end of the day and do not have the time to hand out increasingly complex arrays of gifts. We are also very mindful that not all families are in the position to buy gifts for a class of 30 children, so we feel it is fairest for everyone if we no longer continue with this practice.
WHAT’S THAT APP ANYWAY
What even is Fortnite (or Roblox…or Minecraft…)?
- The best way to find out is to get your child to show youhow any app or game works, what happens and if it’s appropriate. It could be quick, or you might even find you enjoy playing or watching together!
- Common Sense Media has thousands of expert reviews of apps, games and even films and what parents and children think about them. You can view their reviews here https://www.commonsensemedia.org/search
