Campsbourne School’s Governor Newsletter
Dear All
The Governing Body of Campsbourne School is made up of volunteers who work hard behind the scenes to assist with the strategic management of the school. Our role is to provide challenge and support and to work with Mr Smith and the rest of the school’s Senior Leadership Team. I realise that you may not know who the governors are or what we do, so I am working with my fellow governors to take some steps to make this more clear.
As a first step, I wanted to let you know that there have been quite a few changes to the governing body over the past 12 months and I set out these details below. We have also updated the school website to include more information on each of our current governors which can be found here: http://campsbourne.haringey.sch.uk/about-us/governance/meet-the-governors/.
If you, or someone you know, is interested in becoming a governor, or if you have any other questions, please do get in touch with me by email on eleanor_ley3@hotmail.com.
I will be in touch soon with more information about some of the work the governors have been doing over the past few months, particularly in the area of equality, diversity and inclusion at Campsbourne.
Kind regards
Elli Jones
Chair of Governors
Leavers
After nine years as a governor, three of which he spent as Chair, I’m sad to say that Stuart Parker’s time on the governing board came to an end in September. Thank you Stuart for all you have done for Campsbourne (including recruiting Mr Smith!). I know all the governors will miss your calm and pragmatic contributions to our meetings as well as your sense of humour.
Rachel Roberts resigned in September to make more time for her family and Jim Barten’s time as a co-opted governor also comes to an end shortly. Huge thanks to both of you for your contribution to the school and the invaluable skills and time that you brought.
At the beginning of 2020 we also said goodbye to David Libbert, who was a non-parent governor at Campsbourne for many years – we are indebted to him for all the time he selflessly committed to Campsbourne. Thank you, David.
New Governors
I’m very pleased to say that Anita Jakhu and Alex Heywood, who were appointed as associate members last year, have now been made “co-opted” governors, filling the vacancies left by Stuart and Rachel.
We have recently recruited Ayça Onkal, who is a year 1 parent, to be an associate governor. Ayça brings a wealth of skills to the governing body and is working hard to help the school improve its engagement with Turkish and Kurdish parents – we are extremely pleased to welcome her to our team.
Finally, we are delighted to appoint Natasha Crabbe, Head of Early Years and a reception teacher, as an associate governor – she is filling in for Jade Springer-Best as Staff Governor during Jade’s maternity leave.
Governor Vacancies
Although our efforts to recruit a replacement for David were put on hold earlier in the year due to the pandemic, we are now in the process of reassessing the skill gaps in our governing body so that we can ensure that we find the right people to fill the vacancies left by David and Jim. We are also looking to recruit one or two more associate governors. Our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion will form an important part of the decisions we make when we recruit new governors.
