Year 6 trip to Junior Citizens
Year 6 had a thoroughly engaging trip to Scout Park on Tuesday morning for our Junior Citizens workshop. ...
Autumn is well and truly with us. Michael and his team have spent the week clearing the leaves from the site, the rain has continued to pour and the cold weather is on its way. Yet that said it has been a very encouraging week. I hope that you all found the booking process and smooth transition between meetings at this week’s consultation evening easy to navigate. We will continue to use Arbor as the platform for families to make future bookings at consultations. The whole school marked Remembrance Day on Tuesday with a two minute silence which the children observed respectfully. Year 6 have produced some very moving poetry which recorded their own understanding of this important day in the country’s calendar. Our thanks must also go to the children in Year 6 who have worked very hard before and after school to raise funds for the annual Poppy Appeal. Thank you too for your generosity. It was lovely to see the children wearing spotty clothing today in support of Children in Need. They certainly brightened up the day, thank you children. The forecast for next week is for cold weather. Please make sure that your child wears a warm coat and that their name can be clearly identified.

I have spoken with many families week about this initiative and they have shared with me that a soft start is a good way for their child to begin the school day which has been very encouraging. There will always be hesitation and concern when new initiatives are introduced after a long time of following a particular process. Yet the opportunities that will be open to the children will help them to develop many different aspects of their school life.
The main gates on Nightingale Lane will open at 8:40am and parents and carers of children in the upper building (Years 2 through to 6) should drop their child off at either door which leads in to the building. They will be greeted by a member of the Senior Leadership Team before making their way to class. Children in our Reception classes can be escorted on to the school site and dropped off at their classroom but children in Year 1 must be dropped off at the gate which leads on to Eastfield Road. They will also be greeted by a member of the Senior Leadership Team and then make their way to class. Both sets of gates will close at 8:55am. The table below explains clearly which gates year groups should access when they enter the school grounds.
If you need to speak to your child’s class teacher, appointments can always be made for you through the school office and there will always be an opportunity to talk to them at the end of the school day.
This notice will continue to be published in the weekly newsletter until the end of the term.

The Winter Fair is just over two weeks away, and we need our amazing Campsbourne community to help make it a success!
This year, we’re using a new sign-up system to make things easier for everyone. Each class has been assigned an area to run, with time slots to choose from. Some classes are paired up, so there will be plenty of support from experienced volunteers.
Members of the HSA committee will be on-site from 11:00 a.m. on the day to assist. Check your class link to find your assigned slot, and if you have any questions, please contact your class representative.

THIS WEEK’S LEARNING –
On Tuesday, Year 2 enjoyed an exciting visit to Alexandra Palace as part of their history learning on ‘Changes to Alexandra Palace’. The children were taken on a fascinating tour by a historian, who shared what the palace was used for in the past and brought its rich history to life. Our young historians asked thoughtful questions, explored different clues from the past, and discovered lots of surprising facts. One of their favourites was that Alexandra Palace was once home to elephants! The children returned to school buzzing with curiosity and eager to learn even more.

Year 5 had a lovely session from Sue Hessel who read us some extracts from letters written by uncle.
We were able to hear about his experience during the war and listen to the words he was sending home to his family. At the end of the session some of the children were also able to share their families experience during the wars. The children said they really enjoyed the session and listening to stories from the soldiers and those that were fighting. The children said they found it very interesting to hear his story and wished we had longer to listen to his letters. Sue was so impressed with the year 5 classes interest in her uncles life that she kindly gifted the school two copies of her book for the children to read.

In Year 6, the children were given the opportunity to create series circuits using a range of scientific equipment. The children worked very well in groups, as they identified the effect of changing one variable whilst attempting to keep other variables constant. It was a fantastic lesson!

INDIVIDUAL & SIBLING / FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHS – The photographers from Van Cols will take the children’s individual photographs on Wednesday 19th November. Sibling / family photographs will be taken between 8:30am and 9:00am in the Gymnasium. Families should enter the gymnasium from the entrance nearest to the main gates of the school and leave by the gate on Newlands Road. Please be prepared to wait.
TRAVELLING TO AND FROM HOME – It has been brought to my attention that there are a number of older children who either walk and cycle to and from school on their own who need to be reminded of the potential hazards and dangers when they are on the local streets. Children must remember to use their road safety knowledge at all times to avoid any unnecessary accidents:
This includes – crossing at safe places en route, stopping for cars and other motorised vehicles before crossing any road, stopping at the ends of roads and to look for potential dangers before setting off on the next part of the journey, stay away from the kerb edge and remain close to the opposite side of the pavement and to remain alert for all potential dangers.
Thank you for your support with this incredibly important aspect of Heath and Safety.
