Year 6 trip to Junior Citizens
Year 6 had a thoroughly engaging trip to Scout Park on Tuesday morning for our Junior Citizens workshop. ...
It’s been another fabulous week at Campsbourne with lots going on. Forest School has started in Reception and Year 3 and the children have had a great first session with our expert leaders. Year 3 made their way into the grounds of Alexandra Palace and identified potential hazards and placed red flags there so they could see clearly places to avoid in order to keep safe. The children were lucky enough to try out a swing they had made; they told me it was really difficult to swing and they fell off lots! They also enjoyed jumping in puddles – always a good sign of fun being had!
This week, Year 1 became detectives! They went on a journey around the lower school and used a map of the building to find some missing toys that had been taken from the classrooms! The children used their aerial maps to find the location of each toy and recorded their findings in their Geography books. We came back to class to check that all the toys had been found and returned them to where they came from.
In computing this week, Year 3 were learning how to use the Scratch program. The children learnt how to select different backgrounds and ‘sprites’. They then began to use the motion blocks to code the different sprites to move in different ways. They enjoyed exploring the different motion blocks and seeing what they could program their sprites to do.
This week in RE, Year 5 explored the concept of the Trimurti in Hinduism, learning about the three main deities: Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver and Shiva the destroyer. The children discussed how each deity has a unique role and how together they represent the cycle of creation, preservation and change. They then drew detailed images of the three deities and wrote short blurbs explaining their roles, showing a thoughtful understanding of this important Hindu belief.
Friendly Reminders:
Please can I ask that your child always comes to school at this point of the year, with a named coat. We have already had a few coats lose their owners this week and it makes it much easier to return them when they have been labelled.
Can I also remind you that children should not be bringing crisps to school as a snack. Should they wish to bring a snack for playtime, please ensure this is a healthy option such as fruit or vegetable sticks.
Please be aware that we are short-staffed in the front office at some points during the day. We are trying to get this sorted but in the meantime, please bear with us! Thank you for understanding.
If you can make it, please come and say hi to Lucy and the team from 9am on Friday 30th January. There will be tea, coffee a (quick) talk and a chance for introductions and questions (see poster).
This year World Book Day falls on Thursday 5th March. Year 6 will be in Pendarren on their residential trip during this week, so as we have often done in the past we will be celebrating World Book day the following week on Friday 13th March. More information regarding this celebration will come soon!
Latest from the HSA
Discos
Both infant and junior tickets are now SOLD OUT! This event is always a sell-out due to the capacity limit at an indoor event, and the School has a strict capacity limit to comply with fire safety regulations. We understand it may feel disappointing if your child didn’t get a ticket yet, so here are our top tips to help everyone:
Disco Donations
Do you have any small toys/games/stationery/accessories hanging around? The HSA is asking for donations for the disco lucky dips – little things that a child would be excited to pick, no bigger than your palm. So maybe a small cuddly toy, or action figure, some hair clips or a keyring, a little packet of (unused) pencils, or fun stickers. Please make sure they’re complete and not broken, as we want everyone to enjoy their lucky dip goodies.
From Monday 19th to Wednesday 28th January, there will be a disco donation box on the table opposite the school office. We would politely like to request that people do NOT bring donations of anything else, as for now, we are ONLY seeking small disco lucky dip prizes, and it becomes extremely time-consuming for our HSA volunteers to sort through and deal with them. Many thanks.
