Dear Parent / Carers,
Thank you to everyone who organised and took part in Celebrating Differences at Campsbourne last week. We had Reception and Year 1 classes learning about different families, same love followed by Year 2 and 3 classes learning about Neurodiversity, Year 4 and 5 classes celebrating our cultural differences and global community whilst Year 6 focused on LGBT and Gender Equality. The children all came together to share what they learned in whole school assembly with performances, art work and presentations followed by an uplifting event with our Campsbourne community after school. Thank you to the HSA group for organising the tasting event and to everyone that contributed to this as it was another success.

This is a particularly busy time of year for trips and so I would like to thank the staff who put so much effort in to organising a wide range of exciting trips to enhance our curriculum and also to the parent helpers who volunteer.
This week Year 4 had the opportunity to visit the Science museum. First the children explored the wonder lab where they consolidated their learning on sound waves, states of matter and electricity, through immersive activities. They were able to build their own bridges learning about forces, worked with frequency and volume to make water move and rode down an exciting slide to understand friction. The children then listen to a talk all about states of matter whereby different objects were put into liquid nitrogen to see what happened when they froze! The children then walked around the Exploring Space gallery where they got to try on space gloves and learn all about planets ready for Year 5! Finally, the children looked around The Secret Life of Home learning all about the evolution of different household items and how electricity has impacted new inventions. It was a spectacular day.

On Thursday, Year 5 visited the Wallace Collection to explore different landscape paintings. The children had the opportunity to draw their own versions of the paintings explored whilst thinking about perspective and proportions of aspects within them.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Year 6 went on a trip to The Finsbury Library to attend a Knife Crime Workshop in memory of Ben Kinsella. The children worked their way through different rooms learning about Ben’s story as well as the laws around carrying a knife and the impact knife crime can have on the victim but also their families. The children found this really interesting and although it was very hard-hitting, the children all took a lot from it and it was overall a very reflective, informative trip.

Free School Meals for 2023/2024
You may be aware that in February, the Mayor announced that he will provide £130 million emergency, one-off funding to ensure all primary school children can receive free school meals for the academic year beginning in September 2023. This funding only applies to the Junior School as children in the Infant School are already entitled to a free school meal. This funding will support families who are desperately struggling with spiralling costs. If all parents take up this offer of a free school meal it could have a significant impact on our kitchen and will require us to look at issues such increasing storage, hiring more staff and purchasing additional cookers.
We would therefore like to get an indication as to how many children who currently have packed lunches may have a school meal next year so we can plan accordingly. Please only complete the questionnaire below if your child will be in years 3 to 6 next year and currently have a packed lunch.

Classes and Teachers for 2023/2024
We have informed children of who their teachers will be next year this afternoon. We have done this so that we can begin transition arrangements for those children who benefit from them. Children will meet their teachers on Tuesday 18th July. This is the next day when there isn’t a class out on a trip or there is a whole school event and all teachers are in school!

High Pollution Levels in London
There is a high pollution episode across London at the moment. The Mayor is asking everyone to stop or reduce driving or burning, where possible to protect the health of the most vulnerable such as children. If you are able to walk or cycle to school please do so. If you do need to drive if you could drop off away from school and walk the last bit that would be great. Zones of Regulation Parent Workshop – 9am Thursday 6th July
Parents are invited to join us to learn more about the Zones of Regulation approach and how this can be tailored to home, taking place here at 9am Thursday 6th July with Morgan Currie (DHT/SENCO), Wendy Fitt (Pastoral Manager) and Jade Best (Community Lead). We will be discussing how this is used at school and how this can be supported at home as well as provide parents with resources and tools they may find useful to put into practise.
