Year 6 trip to Junior Citizens
Year 6 had a thoroughly engaging trip to Scout Park on Tuesday morning for our Junior Citizens workshop. ...
I can’t believe we’re already 4 weeks into the Spring term! I really enjoyed popping into all classes recently to see what the children were getting up to in their literacy lessons. It was great to see across the school, the children so engrossed in their learning and sharing ideas for their stories as they were all beginning to plan their own narratives. Our ‘Talk for Writing’ program really allows the practise of embedding particular sentence structures and encourage creativity – this was clearly evident as the children shared their work with me!
In our PSHE assemblies this week, we have been looking at civil liberties and what to means to stand up for your rights, to speak up when injustice can be seen and believing in yourself. It was wonderful to hear from the children their views on this and see how comfortable they were in sharing these!
Learning around the school this week:
This week in PE, Year 1 have been learning to develop their ball skills with a particular focus on throwing and catching, rolling and dribbling. The children worked on controlling the ball with their hands and feet. They were encouraged to think about their body position, hand-eye coordination and aiming accurately when working with a partner. The children thoroughly enjoyed this PE lesson working collaboratively together, taking turns and following instructions carefully.
In PSHE this half term, Year 3 are thinking about how to manage safety and risk. This week we have been talking about trips and outdoor activities. We discussed the responsibilities that adults have to keep us safe but also the responsibilities that we have to keep ourselves safe.
Year 3 have also been creating their own wonderful portal stories in English. Our main characters have been transported from their ordinary lives to all manner of fantastical places: outer space, forbidding forests, eerie castles and even London Zoo. We have then added lots of descriptive detail to our magical lands and filled them full of tempting treats, treasures or technology. There are lots of temptations, but also an ominous warning which will be very dangerous to ignore. Year 3 have really shown their imaginative and creative spirit in this piece of work and it has been really wonderful to read such great writing.
In Year 5, the children researched two fascinating historical figures: Pakal the Great and Caliph al-Mansur. The children explored who they were, when they lived and their significance, making thoughtful comparisons between their leadership and achievements. The classes were extremely engrossed in the activity, showing great curiosity and focus throughout, and they thoroughly enjoyed discovering more about these influential figures from the past.
From the school office:
Please be reminded that while we will always do our best to give messages or pass things on, the main role of the admin office is attendance and safeguarding so we cannot guarantee this (we are also human and make mistakes!) If you have an urgent message, please tell the adult you see at drop off either at breakfast club or your child’s teacher. We are also still short-staffed in the office and we are working on a solution.
World Book Day
This year World Book Day falls on Thursday 5th March. Year 6 will be in Pendarren on their residential trip during this week, so as we have often done in the past we will be celebrating World Book day the following week. The date will now be Wednesday 11th March due to a clash with the Year 2 trip with the previous date sent out. More information regarding WBD will come soon!
Lunar New Year dance workshops!
As a way to recognise and celebrate the Lunar New Year, the children from Reception to Year 6 will all take part in dance workshops run by ‘West End Schools’ on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th February. The company ‘West End Schools’ will be with us for two full days and I have no doubt this will be a really fun opportunity for the children……..so teachers – get your dancing shoes on!
Latest from the HSA
Tonight is the Infant disco from 5:30 – 8 pm. Thank you to all the volunteers who have helped prepare for this event and have signed up to help make this another incredible event for the children of Campsbourne. Just a reminder, everyone attending the disco will need to have the correct tickets (adult for adults and child ticket for Campsbourne children) as it is a sold-out event with a capacity limit, to comply with fire safety regulations. We hope everyone coming has a super fun time, and we can’t wait to see everyone’s signature dance moves!
We are still looking for support at the junior disco, so please check out available slots below and assign your name – we want to ensure the event is fun and SAFE for everyone.

Uniforms
Thanks to everyone who has purchased mynametag stickers over the past year, for uniforms, water bottles and more – we just found out this has helped to raise £62 for the HSA. If you want to order any name stickers, Order here using our school code 1716 ensures a percentage of sales goes to the HSA.
Our next uniform stampede is scheduled for drop off on Friday, 27th February, so come along to pick up some pre-loved uniform. Cash and card donations are accepted, but not essential. If you have any unwanted pieces of Campsbourne-branded uniform, please drop them off at the table opposite the office before the 27th.
Tesco Grant
The HSA has been shortlisted for a Tesco Stronger Starts Grant to help repair and reinstate the school’s Sensory Room. It is a vital space that supports children’s well-being by reducing anxiety and helping them regulate their emotions through calming sensory experiences. All children will benefit, with particular impact for those with SEND and children in EYFS.
How you can help: When you shop at Tesco, please pick up a blue token and place it in our project box. Voting is open until March 31st in 15 local Tesco stores across Hornsey, Finchley, Tottenham and Bounds Green.
Prizes: If our project receives the most tokens, we will be awarded £1,500; second place will receive £1,000, and third place will receive £500. Every vote counts. Thank you for being so supportive!
No Readathon
Just to reassure and remind everyone that there is NO Readathon this February as there has been in the past 2 years, instead we’re trying something new! Starting on the 17th April and running until the 16th May, we are hosting a Sponsored Triathlon. The Children of Campsbourne will be invited to run, bike and swim as many minutes as they can in that month, recording their times and collecting sponsorships from friends and family. More information to come closer to the time!
