Dear Parent / Carers,
Tomorrow is our annual summer fair between 12 and 3pm which is a vital fun raiser for the school. I hope you are able to come and enjoy the afternoon with the Campsbourne community. If you see me in some stocks next to a bucket of sponges please feel free to walk past!
Gardening Club
Over the past two weeks, Gardening Club have been busy making delicious food from the vegetables they have been growing and looking after in the Eco Garden for the last year.
- Year 1 made Kale Crisps. This is the vegetable they chose to grow from seeds and look after. Everyone enjoyed making these and eating these, especially Mr Smith!
- Year 2 made Rainbow Rolls from the carrots they have grown from seeds over the last year. The kids thoroughly enjoyed this process.
- Year 3 made Simply Lemony Spring Greens Pasta. They enjoyed trying something new and using the vegetables they had looked after in doing this. Scarlet enjoyed it so much she was caught licking the bowl!
- Year 4 made Crunchy Fruity Coleslaw. They had a fun time mixing the onions they had grown alongside other ingredients in order to make this.
- Year 5 made Courgette and Onion Fritters from the courgettes they had been growing in the garden. They got the Mr Smith seal of approval and he even asked for more!
- Year 6 will be making Rhubarb Messy Tart and look forward to using the rhubarb they have been growing to create this.
Each year group had thoroughly enjoyed their time in the Eco Garden. We all look forward to doing the same next year! If you would like the recipes, they can be found in ‘The Little Grower’s Cookbook’ by Ghillie James and Julia Parker.
Year 6 Canoe at West Reservoir Centre
This week Year 6 went on our end of year canoeing trip. We journeyed to the West Reservoir Centre, where we were joined by water sports specialists who helped us get into our gear ready to canoe. We learned lot’s of new things about canoeing, how to steer in different directions and techniques to canoe faster. Once we got the hang of it we played some games on the water and by the end of it we were canoeing experts! To top it off the children had a much anticipated dip in the water – which they loved!
NEU Strikes
The NEU have called for 2 more strikes which will take place on Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July. These strikes are part of the NEU’s campaign for fairer pay rises for teaching staff and for increased funding for schools. You should assume that your child’s class will be closed on both of these days. If a teacher decides not to strike on one or both of these days we will contact you directly.

We will be discussing how this is used at school and how this can be supported at home as well as provide parents with resources and tools they may find useful to put into practise. Online Safety Bill
There is currently an Online Harms bill going through parliament, with urgent calls for the internet to be made safer for children – the NSPCC calls the internet the Wild West! Despite age ratings of13+ and 16+ online and social media platforms including YouTube, WhatsApp and TikTok are the daily diet for many children and include dares and challenges that can encourage children to share explicit content and to be unkind.
Managing screen time on these platforms is challenging because of the addictive design features and extreme & dangerous content easily accessed, including violent and scary video content masked by child friendly titles such as Huggy Wuggy. We encourage you to stay very involved with your child’s life online and carefully consider the risks if you allow them to use social media.
A new and highly acclaimed 15-minute short drama starring Jodie Whittaker (Dr Who), Paul Ready (Motherland) looks at online harm, regulation and responsibility.
