30 Oct Rajvinder KotechaParent Governor
I became Parent Governor in November 2023 and have a son in Reception. I worked at South Harringay Infant and Nursery School for thirteen and a half years as a teacher, deputy head and interim headteacher. I am passionate about children’s learning and believe that every child has the right to reach their full potential. My experience was particularly focused on improving outcomes for all children, including underachieving groups, and ensuring that all children, including high achievers, were appropriately challenged. I have a keen interest in how schools promote language, culture and diversity and also how children at different stages of English language acquisition are supported in their learning. I believe education should be inclusive, fun and relevant and that ‘children’s voice’ should influence daily school life and the curriculum being taught. I consider high quality play as a cherished part of childhood and therefore a crucial part of the school day.
I left teaching to start my own business with my husband and we have three ice cream parlours in London. We have fostered good relationships with our local communities, including supporting schools with fundraising and enterprise projects.
