At Campsbourne we teach the National Curriculum for Physical Education which can be found here. We provide the best possible opportunities for all children to be able to participate in sport and physical activity, both in and out of school, enabling them to lead healthy and physically active lifestyles.
We believe the benefits of this include;
Our PE curriculum is designed to ensure children experience a wide range of sports and has the clear aim of ensuring that all children can swim and ride a bike before they leave Campsbourne.
We use the Get Set PE Curriculum for our basic PE provision which covers dance, gymnastics, net and wall games, invasion games, striking and fielding games, athletics, outdoor and adventure activities, and yoga in Year 6. Children develop an understanding of tactics, composition and choreography whilst performing skills and techniques supported by structured, well planned and differentiated lessons and learning activities. Children will also be encouraged to develop independent, decision making skills and those of commitment and leadership. To ensure that PE provision is of a exceptional quality we have also assigned a teaching assistant during the afternoons to support PE provision.
PE Provision for Reception, KS1 and KS2 2024-2025
We are also fortunate to have a small swimming pool which we use for swimming lessons. These start with weekly lessons in Years 1 and 2 before going to three half termly blocks of lessons in Years 3 to 6. Once children meet the National aims of 25m on front and back children stop swimming and get additional PE lessons allowing more focused provision for those who have not met the target.
Children need to be provided with the correct swimming kit.
Cycling provision begins in the Early Years with the use of balance bikes before children progress to Level 1 and 2 Cycling Proficiency.
Children regularly compete in the Haringey Sports League. To support children who participate in competitive sport we have also assigned a teaching assistant during the afternoons to enhance PE provision. The teaching assistant assigned to PE during the afternoons is also responsible for supporting children who are participating in Haringey Sports Competitions to ensure they are competitive and can therefore get the most from their experiences.
Children are teacher assessed against key skills and the knowledge acquired at the end of each unit.
