20 May Year 1’s Trip to the Wren300 Experience at Temple Bar
Year 1 went to the Wren300 experience at Temple Bar to develop and extend their knowledge about the Great Fire of London. The children learnt about how quickly the fire spread and saw on a huge map which parts of London were burnt down to the ground! They explored a range of different objects from 1666 and used Lego to design and build their own buildings inspired by Sir Christopher Wren. They visited ‘The King’s Wardrobe’ (a house) that use to be there before it was burnt down and practised using buckets of water to pass down the line of children to put the fire out, just like they did in 1666! They continued their walk down to the River Thames and reflected on how the people must have felt to see London alight all those years ago and talked about how some people even tried to save their beds and pianos!!! The children then looked back to see the amazing St. Paul’s Cathedral. We then visited another Church designed by Sir Christopher Wren where the children dressed up as Sir Christopher himself, a girl or a worker of the time. We all had a fabulous time on our journey back to 1666!
