17 Dec Year 3 – Shell Structures
For Design and Technology week, year 3 have been learning all about shell structures. We learnt that they are structures with a solid outer surface but a hollow inside. We began our unit by looking at different types of packaging, which we then deconstructed and found out that they were made from nets. We explored constructing different 3D shapes from nets – it was quite tricky! We then designed our own gift boxes for a friend or relative, thinking about the shape and the design of the box. Finally, we made our own gift boxes using different shaped nets. We enjoyed adding the finishing touches, such as ribbon and sequins.
